What is Adapted Physical Activity?
Adapted Physical Activity (APA) means physical activity for persons who require adaptation to take part in physical activity and sporting activities due to a disability, illness, lowered functional ability or social situation.
APA related research in Finland
The majority of the research about APA has been done in the University of Jyväskylä but some research projects has been conducted also in other universities, by sport medicine organizations, universities of applied sciences and research institutes.
Activity Actors and Networks
Many different actors and networks work in the field of APA in Finland. In the national level the most significant actors are the ministries and different associations. In local level the most important actors are the Sport Departments in municipalities, associations and clubs offering adapted physical activities.
